Suck on an ice cube. Or drink cold water. Often, it’s as simple as that
Get a mini-fan. These hand-held, inexpensive little fans that can be found in most discount stores are usually powered by one small battery. Just turn it on and blow some cool air on yourself anytime, anyplace.
Exercise regularly. Though exercise can sometimes trigger a hot flash, a brisk half-hour walk can help improve circulation and increase your tolerance for temperature extremes.
Stop smoking. Smoking constricts your blood vessels which can intensify and prolong hot flashes. It’s interesting to note that smoking may be responsible for bringing on perimenopausal symptoms as much as two years earlier than average.
Wear cool clothing. Stock up on cotton and other fabrics that breathe rather than synthetics. Wear short sleeves and lower necklines. If possible, avoid pantyhose during summer months.
