Decongestants, eye drops, immunotherapy can relieve symptoms caused by nasal allergies
Decongestants are available as oral medications and as nose drops and sprays, but drops and sprays should only be used for a few days. When used for longer periods, they can make symptoms worse. Eye drops antihistamines or decongestants can be prescribed to help relieve itchy eyes. A series of allergy shots, also called immunotherapy, can be used to reduce allergy symptoms over a longer period. Allergy shots contain a small amout of the substance to which your kids are allergic, which helps them become desensitized to the allergen. It can take six months or more following initiation of therapy to feel relief. Most people need allergy shots for approximately three to five years to achieve long lasting or possibly permanent relief after the allergy shots are stopped
