Since this is often caused by sleeplessness, dealing with that problem can eliminate this one. But if lack of sleep isn’t the cause of your fatigue, try these remedies:
- Ginseng. This herb can provide a boost of energy. Dr. Gaudet, in Prevention magazine, suggests taking panax ginseng with 4 to 7 percent ginsenosides, one 100 milligram capsule once or twice a day.
- Exercise. Studies show that women who exercise moderately at least three times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes have more energy and fewer perimenopausal symptoms. You can accomplish this by taking a brisk walk.
- Ask your doctor about vitamin B-12. Taken by injection, B-12 can give you an energy boost if you might be anemic due to heavy bleeding, or if certain other medical conditions exist.
- Iron supplements. These can help, especially if you’ve been bleeding heavily or frequently. Discuss this with your doctor, and if she recommends it, take an iron supplement. Be sure to follow her directions carefully, since too much iron has serious consequences. A generally recommended iron supplement dosage is 50 milligrams of elemental iron per day.
Dealing with sleeplessness will often improve these two conditions. And whiles some women report improvement from taking estrogen, there are other solutions.
- Ginseng. This herb can have an estrogen-like effect and is frequently used in Chinese medicine for perimenopausal symptoms.
- Gingko biloba. This herb comes from the maidenhair tree, one of the longest living trees in the world. Chinese medical practitioners have used extracts from the tree’s leaves for thousands of years, and in Europe, gingko biloba is a common prescription written by doctors.
Its purpose is to improve mental awareness and overall brain function. Compounds called flavonoids – potent antioxidants – are what make gingko biloba the herb of choice for brain function. The recommended daily dose is 120-160 mg.
- Write things down. As simple as it seems, making a list may be the easiest thing to do for forgetfulness.
