According to a study, extra abdominal fat in women over age 60 seems to raise the risk of artery clogging more than overall obesity. The researchers measured body fat in more than 1300 women, ages 60 to 85, and found that those with the highest degree of calcification in the aorta (a sign of heart disease) also had the highest percentages of abdominal fat, with lower levels of fat elsewhere on their bodies.
